How to clean AirPods grilles without damage

Wax and dust can affect sound, microphones and noise cancellation. The correct method depends on the model.

Identify the model first

Apple publishes different instructions for AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max generations. Follow only the steps intended for your model.

Keep exterior cleaning simple

Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For the case port, use only a clean, dry, soft brush. Do not insert objects into charging contacts or allow liquid into openings.

Avoid sharp or abrasive tools

Do not use needles, metal or abrasive materials and never place AirPods under water. Let them dry completely before returning them to the case.

If the issue remains, stop cleaning

Low volume or weak ANC can have other causes, including fit, settings or firmware. If safe cleaning does not help, request a check.
